A BELT'R OF A CONVERSATION

An inclusive conversation by guests at a recent CM®/BMW event, I revealed about my life, career and what comes next in the world of belts. Here are ten favourite questions from the evening and how I answered;
On being business-minded:
Fashion for me is a commercial endeavour, not an artistic endeavour. There are fashion designers who are true artists, like Alexander McQueen. But for me its business. I want to deliver an artistic side with my belts, to change the perception of how belts are received. To do this, my commercial head must be in front of my art.
On being controlling:
Creating a brand is a dictatorship, not a committee. That doesnt mean you dont listen but you have to make the final decision.
On technology:
I am constantly on my laptop. The first thing I do in the morning is switch it on and look at CM® activity over night around the globe.
On being a Scottish Designer working in globally:
I consider myself an international designer. In todays world, you have to think globally.
On being a perfectionist:
Things are never quite good enough, never quite there. Good enough means you've given it your best and said everything you want to say.
On why he does what he does:
Its compulsion. Its what makes me happy and if I'm not doing it I feel unfulfilled.
On his style advice:
Never ever wear anything that you're remotely uncomfortable in, because thats what you'll project. I dont mean physical comfort, I dont mind a bit of suffering.
On his definition of luxury:
Sleep, sleep, sleep, sleep. Just a great bed and lots of sleep.
